Position Overview:

The Test Engineer is responsible for the development and execution of test plans for custom neutron generator products. Test engineers lead electro-mechanical and software acceptance testing of prototype productions and are responsible for product validation. Test engineers are the primary operators of first of a kind systems and lead the development of documentation for safe operation. The Test Engineer establishes a commissioning plan (activities and sequence) to validate the assembly and operation of Phoenix products against design intent and customer requirements. They also develop test procedures for components, sub-assemblies, and systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate Phoenix accelerator systems
  • Exercise prototype systems, establish system operating conditions and modes
  • Establish acceptance criteria for mechanical, electrical and controls design
  • Develop detailed manufacturing acceptance test procedures in collaboration with design engineering teams
  • Perform acceptance testing on completed assemblies against design intent
  • Work closely with Project Management, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Engineering teams to transition projects from design into build and test phases
  • Develop detailed system integration plan and test procedures
  • Develop system commissioning approach and timeline to achieve factory acceptance in alignment with customer milestones
  • Develop detailed factory acceptance procedures for requirements validation
  • Lead the development of documentation for safe operation of first of a kind systems
  • Participate in design reviews and provide practical feedback from system testing to influence future designs
  • Troubleshoot prototype systems in close collaboration with R&D and Design Engineering teams
  • Analyze, debug, and repair components and assemblies
  • Develop new processes and documentation to support testing and assembly as needed
  • Test and verify components and assemblies using electrical testing and/or precision measurement equipment
  • Perform I/O checks, troubleshoot and repair problems found during testing
  • Maintain required production records and provide feedback
  • Support assembly technicians as needed
  • Assist with device commissioning, service and training of operators at customer sites
  • Perform job duties with minimal instruction or supervision

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical, Nuclear or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Independent worker with excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis including Diadem, MS Excel or Python
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Experience creating test procedures, assembly documentation and developing processes
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with high vacuum systems
  • Experience with plasma sources and ion beam
  • Experience with standard hand and machine tools
  • Experience with basic electrical tools including DMM, oscilloscope and soldering
  • Experience with Labview preferred
  • Experience working with cross-functional technical teams preferred
  • Experience with new product development, prototype and R&D preferred
  • Desire to learn innovative technologies and concepts
  • Flexibility to work various shifts preferred
  • Flexibility for travel up to 25% preferred
